MISADVENTURES MAGAZINE
In 2013, I founded the adventure magazine for women with two business partners, and in 2015 we debuted in print. Over the course of five years, we developed a dedicated readership, earned accolades and awards, and proved what a 21st-century magazine for women can and should be.
Misadventures helped to transform the outdoor mediasphere by championing women who embrace creativity, take risks, and go out and beyond. Recognized by Library Journal, the Magazine Innovation Center, and the outdoor industry as a groundbreaking publication, the magazine addressed the dramatic gender gap in outdoor media by creating a space for women, trans, and non-binary outdoor enthusiasts and adventurers to see themselves represented and make their voices heard.
Though Misadventures is no longer in print, my co-founders and I are gratified to have watched the gender gap in outdoor media begin to close—not just on our pages, but also in the outdoor industry at large. There’s still a ways to go, but the landscape is shifting, the conversation has changed, and we are proud to have played a role and been a part of the vanguard that envisioned equitable representation and worked to advocate for it at every turn.
